Wagons West

I have neglected my blog for nearly a month now, but with good reason: we're moving. Not even two weeks ago, my husband was offered a visiting professor position at Pacific Lutheran University, our alma mater. We decided it was best to pack up and move as quickly as possible in order to maximize our time out West this summer. So we are picking up the moving truck on Wednesday and driving out Thursday. Needless to say, we have been desperately packing and preparing. My knitting has really taken a back seat. Actually, the actual act of knitting has taken a back seat, but thinking about knitting has taken a front seat. The bulk of our stuff is likely to be in storage for over a month, so I have had to take special care not to put any knitting item that I might need into a sealed-up box. I have stuffed my giant A Grand Yarn project bag with several projects for the road and for the duration of the summer. We have my Fitted Knits vest (pictured here with a bubble wrap backdrop), which is almost complete. There's a beaded scarf I started a while back, a second sock out of Sockotta, and a colorful Mission Falls 1824 Cotton baby sweater. Of course, my needles are staying close, too, just in case I need to start something else. You never know.

As for the move, we are quite thrilled to be heading back to Washington. We will be able to see our families a lot more easily, and I can visit A Grand Yarn much more regularly. Hooray! On the down side, we have to say goodbye to our dear friends, the Skillens. I have already shed a number of tears over that. I will move on, since I get too sad if I think about it...Andrew and I will have three days driving in the big Penske truck to Spokane, where we will stay a couple of nights. Andrew is going to be doing pretty much all of the driving because we are towing our car on a trailer, and the thought of driving the whole kit and kaboodle freaks me out (whereas I think Andrew is kind of excited). That could mean a whole lot of on-the-road knitting. The only hitch is the fact that there is a chance our truck won't have a CD player. If that's the case, our plan is to have me read the sixth Harry Potter book aloud as review prior to the release of the final book. But I certainly can't read aloud the entire time. Maybe those socks will get finished for summertime wear after all...

Apologies for the very long post, but it will probably be a while before I can post again.
